As a proud Sustainable Salon and one of Christchurch’s leading eco-conscious hair salons, we’re committed to minimising our impact and helping you feel good about your hair – and the planet. By recycling up to 95% of salon waste and partnering with both Sustainable Salons and L’Oréal Professionnel’s sustainability initiatives, we’re redefining what it means to be a green hair salon in Christchurch.
What we recycle through Sustainable Salons:
Every cut, colour, and wash at Scissortrix is part of a larger mission – one that values people, the planet, and the power of responsible beauty.
♻️ Up to 95% of salon waste, including plastics, chemicals, and metals
💇 Hair clippings are transformed into booms to clean oil spills, fertiliser, or used in tech applications
♻️ Foil and colour tubes are collected and repurposed
📰 Paper waste is fully recycled
♻️ Plastics become everything from combs to pot plants and dog leads
👩🎓 Ponytail donations help create wigs for those with medical hair loss
💚 We help fund causes like OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest through the proceeds of recycled materials
💚 Partner with disability employment services to provide meaningful work across the network

We include a $3 Sustainable Salons fee with every appointment. 100% of this goes directly to the program, helping fund:
- Waste collection and salon material recycling
- Development of new eco-friendly solutions in the hair industry
- Ponytail donations and social initiatives like disability employment
It’s a small fee that creates big change – and lets us all play a part in building a carbon-neutral salon experience.
